Love a Last Minute Market

I found out today that I will now be doing the Yarraville Market this Sunday which is fabulously great but it's going to make for a very busy week. I've been mucking around with a few new products which I would love to test out at the market but that means uhh ummm actually making good versions. Ha! That's fine I didn't need a socail life this week anyway. I promise I will take photos at some point this week and show you the new things I've been working on. I've also been working on my logo so stay tuned as I would love to get people's opinion before I publish it so to speak.

The Little Things...

A picture paints a thousand words. This is how I've been feeling the last week and half. I've had the flu and I've pretty much being doing nothing but lazy lying around (and in the sun whenever I can) . Which is great except my brain is still going a million miles an hour and I haven't had the energy to act on it. There are sooooo many things I want to make! I'm feeling very overwhelmed at the moment because I have so many ideas and I don't know where to direct my energy in terms of coming up with new products to make and sell. One moment its bright colourful funky things the next its girly vintage and lace. I seem to be struggling to stick to a design aesthetic. Can I just make it all? Argghhh! So I took myself off to the beach for a walk and I reminded myself that it's the little pleasures in life that keep you grounded - like walking on the beach crunching shells under my feet. Definitely one of life's little pleasures in my book! Other little pleasures for me are lying in the sun, watching my dog sleeping or stirring cake mix. What are your little pleasures?

Ladies First Exhibition

I came across this exhibition whilst hanging out in blogland and I think it's well worth a look. It opens tomorrow night at Brunswick Street Gallery and features 14 female artists.
I'm excited to see Emma Leonard is part of the exhibition as I fell in love with her work when I first saw her stuff at the North Melbourne Makers Market. The print above is the one I purchased from her called "Girl with Bow". I just love the mix media and I'm always a fan of ink and watercolour together. Gorgeous stuff.

My New Stockists

I finally worked out how to get photos off my iphone and onto my laptop so I can finally show you two of the stores where Emiti things are sold. (And yes it was easy so don't laugh - I'm not very techno savy). So the first store is The Fruit Peddlers Clinic in Westgarth.
As you can see this store is amazing. I just love all the colour so I know my wheatbags are going to fit right in.
They sell heaps of stuff that is pure goodness like organic fruit and vege, organic breads, natural body and face products, herbs, vitamins and thousands of things more so go have a look. Here's their Natural Therapy Page as they're not really websitey type people.

The other store I wanted to show you is Fitzroy Therapeutics in North Fitzroy.
They have a massive range of therapies on offer like massage, kinesiology and naturopathy just to name a few. Plus its a really beautiful building. I love being there and soaking up all the positive energy radiating through the place.
And there's some of my wheatbags sitting in the middle. They're also stocking a range of my eyepillows as well. Next week I'll be approaching a few more stores I've had my eye on for awhile. Always a scary prospect approaching new places but it's a job that's gotta be done (and no Kim you can't put it off till the following week)

BlackBird Market -This Saturday

So the time has arrived - my very first market! Well Emiti's very first market as I've done others before but not with these lovely wheatbags. And unfortunately I can't personally do the market as I'll be in Mackay for my grandma's 80th birthday. (sigh, it's a tough life). It should be quite the family reunion. But I have my very awesome friend Tess playing market chick for me. Tess has done "a billion markets before" as she puts it so I know I'm leaving it in the right hands.
Tess is a very creative chick and has just finished touring her amazing one woman show called "How To Be A Lady" which entertained hundreds of people across The Melbourne Fringe, Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne Comedy Festival. Check out her blog.
So if you come to market I'm sure she'll make you laugh. Here's the details

Saturday 15th May 2010

Post Market Buzz

Welllll what a day. I had a lot of fun and just in case you were worried my eyes are still in tact. Just. So what did I think? The most fun I had was at Jodie from Vintage Ric Rac's seminar on craft blogging. It was a real hoot and she was so warm, generous and very funny! In fact we were all having so much (loud) fun that we got shushed by the Quantum Compass people next door. I'm sure they were just jealous. It was lovely to be listening to someone who is so passionate about what she does. Jodie obviously has a lot of fun doing her crafty thing. Have a look at her great blog here.
I asked a question about how to get the nice looking picture links on the side of your blog and I got a whole bunch of people answering me about how to do it so thankyou! I look forward to adding some very soon.
While there I also met Jacinta from One Little Acorn who also has a beautiful blog check it out here.
I also went to a couple of the seminars about business where I picked up a couple of new tips and ideas. In fact I thought it was very serendipitous that while I was in the 'cashflow' seminar I got a call from a new stockist who wanted to place an order for wheatbags so that was pretty cool.
I just loved all the stands at the Incubator. My favourite was probably the lovely girls over at Ink & Spindle. I've been seeing their fabric everywhere on bags, lampshades and cushions so it was nice to discover the source of it all. I can certainly see why they are so popular. They make their own screenprinted fabric and they're all just gorgeous.
Have a look at their blog here.

I have to say I was a little disappointed to see quite a lot of non craft related businesses selling their wares at the show. I mean really, do we need to see products like orthotics, gym equipment and gel packs at a craft show? A pity they don't moderate who can exhibit. But at least everyone else was fabulous.
I got a little overwhelmed at the Kelani Fabric Obsession stand. So many wonderful fabrics, so little time. In the end I couldn't decide and walked away to feel calm again. I get terribly indecisive. My rationalisation was that I can look at their online store and chose calmly and in my own time.
So I've now spent the last 4 hours looking up all the new blogs, stores and generally getting lost in the online crafting world.
Phew its time to have a cup of tea.

The Melbourne Stitches and Craft Show

I am so excited about going to the Melbourne Stitches and Craft Show on the weekend. The craft world is all so new to me that the idea of so many crafty things being under the one roof is making me feel like a kid in a candy shop. Argh I'm going to have to rest my eyes beforehand so my eyes don't explode from all the sights. I love expos as I get so excited and get so many ideas.

I popped along to the Australasian Quilt Convention last weekend which was great. I'm not so into quilts unless they're bright and modern. I don't really dig the nanna patterns. There was some great work there though. If I can work out how to get the photos that I took from my phone I'll put my favourites up. I did however pick up some fabric for some bags I'm making but I restrained myself as I wanted to save my money for the Stitches and Craft Show.

It's going to be a big day. I'm going to listen to 3 back to back seminars about craft and business which then leaves me about 2 hours to look around. I hope that'll be enough. Hmmm hopefully I'm not working on Saturday and maybe I can do a two day trip just to be sure.

If you wanna check out their website click here. I'll be the super excited person running around with my eyes hanging out of my head.
