Flower Monday: a perfect gift

This week I got given the most beautiful bunch of flowers from my lovely best friend Lou. What was especially good was that she choose her own flowers rather than a pre-made bunch which I always think works better. Lou chose red gladioli, pink lillies finished off with eucalptus leaves.

I've never been one to mix native foliage with 'european flowers' like lillies but I really really liked the smokey green colour of the eucalyptus combined with the pale pink of the lillies. Just gorgeous! I'm declaring the eucalyptus leaves a new favourite.

Flower Monday: Rose Play

I bought my very first rose bush a couple of weekends ago. First a vegie garden, now a rose bush - how domestic! The picture above is the beautiful bloom that I couldn't resist drawing.

I had so much fun and even though it was purely a 'for pleasure' exercise the drawings above have helped me further develop a fabric pattern that I've been working on which will feature in my first collection of handbags. It'll be another month or two before I can show you but its very exciting.

Flower Monday brings some carnations...

I surprised myself this week by buying carnations. I NEVER buy carnations. Something about them has always cried cheap and tacky to me. But I was really taken by these red and white ones and I just love how they contrast with the bright lime green molucca balm. Molucca balm (also known as irish bells) is a big favourite of mine - it makes anything look good. They remind me of some sort of alien bell tower. And they can last for over 2 weeks. Then for bulk and just cause they're pretty I added a bunch of pink dahlias.
